The three young founders of e27 declare that they are interested in "clever function and simple solutions" to design problems. They got the name of their firm "e27" from the German rating system for light bulbs similar to the wattage rating system in the U.S. Osram, a lighting manufacturer in German used an advertising slogan that first attracted them: "Always good light with e27."
The principals work in different design fields so the firm's work is wide-ranging, from product development to navigational systems for websites to corporate identity. Their design solutions are arrived at through a participatory process with the clients. When creating the identity program for Waldkrankenhaus Gransee - a hospital located in a forest - e27 involved 200 nurses in arriving a suitable graphic identity scheme for the hospital - which turned out to be a green deer that is plastered on everything from flags to china.
